Her doctoral dissertation entitled “Constructions and Uses of the Figure of Schelling in 19th-Century French Philosophy,” was supervised by Delphine Antoine-Mahut (ENS Lyon, IHRIM) and Jean-François Goubet (University of Lille, STL). Her research, which combines the history of philosophy and reception studies, focuses on German Idealism, nineteenth-century French philosophy, modern philosophy, and Franco-German cultural representations and transfers.

From 1977 to 1990 he was among the leading editors of New Outlook, the pioneering English-language Middle East monthly (which ran from 1957 to 1993). Since 2005 Schenker has been the co-editor, with Ziad AbuZayyad, of the Palestine-Israel Journal of Politics, Economics and Culture, founded in 1994 and based in East Jerusalem (www.pij.org).
